Mischief in the Mushroom Patch, 2/2013, 146 pgs
My review is for Stranger In the Mushroom Patch.
This is number four in The Mischief Series. While I have not read the first three, that did nothing to detract from the entertainment of this book. Within a couple of pages, I figured out the characters, and joyfully turned pages, reading along and wishing I had some little one to read this to!
The story centers around Boris and Jack, who are challenged on a regular basis to stay out of trouble. However, when you can have an unlimited supply of slimy moss bombs, that can be beyond a reasonable request. Of course, it does not help that the adults in the story may just be having as much fun as the kids. OK, frankly, I wanted a few slimy moss bombs after reading this!
The characters are all fairies, and the kids are attending school to learn their craft. When the moss bombs take over the attention of almost the entire school, a battle is planned. Strategy is used and things are moving along swimmingly until IT appears. A HUMAN! She may be a toddler, but to these fairies, she’s huge, scary and lost. What ensues is a determination to help the human, stay safe and work as a team. Lively dialogue and funny scenes will keep all readers waiting for the next thing to happen.
Polite actions and consideration for others is a strong subtheme, so I would easily buy this series for all kiddos 4-11. I know right now that summer reading lists are being made and this series needs to be on it!
