While wandering through an artist festival in Kansas City, I noticed a small pile of books among the various jewelry and pottery displays. So of course, I headed straight there, where I met the smiling author of this collection. While the game he created kept my adult daughter entertained, I chatted with the author and quickly purchased the book. I did get a little sass from the family about doing that thing I do with authors, but when they saw the title, the laughs started. I have a bit of a reputation with plants – let’s just say the hubby gave me a plant on our second date and it was dead before the third date.
Let me start by saying I do not read a lot of poetry, but it fills a certain need in my reading. I like to take poetry slowly, a poem or two at a time, so I can peacefully enjoy it. Often, poetry books live on my desk or nightstand for weeks. This one even traveled with me.
The collection has a nice variety of styles and subject matter, from quick Hiaku to several pages. A few of my favorites were Memories, exploring a time before being attached to a phone, Diamonds Are a Guy’s Best Friend, being a baseball fan myself, and I’m Vegan, which made me snort-laugh in a quiet waiting room—isn’t it great when you can amuse strangers! Pick up your copy and let your garden grow!

What grows in your garden?
Healing vegetables? Beautiful roses and wildflowers? A bit of both? Maybe it’s a patch of dry, cracked land with the occasional weed spread sparsely throughout, still waiting to be cultivated into a calming, love-filled home.
Garden of Thoughts is a book of poetry about life, love, growth and the invaluable strength of our minds and hearts.
