Well it started like a story that has been told many times. Girls meets boy but he is promised to another. Each go their separate ways to make a life – or so I thought. I was enjoying this often told tale because the characters were well developed and the background of WWI made it very interesting but then the curve happened.
You know how sometimes in a book you find yourself talking to the characters saying NO don’t do that! (Ok maybe you don’t but I do). So while the characters were frustrating me it just made me more intent on reading the book. Most of this story took the turns you can expect, but the few twists and the way the story is told is refreshing and engaging.
