Each stand-alone book in this multi-author crime novel series is set in the fictitious, beautiful little Texas Hill Country town of Magnolia Bluff. Each author writes in their preferred sub-genre to allow readers to experience humor, dark dilemmas, suspense, romance, thrills, and spills — told through good storytelling that will keep readers awake past their bedtime, trying to find out whodunit.
THE DEWEY DECIMAL DILEMMA – Magnolia Bluff, Texas, is a typical small town in the heart of the Hill Country. Caroline McCluskey, the town’s librarian, routinely catalogues books using the Dewey Decimal system. When a black and white poodle puppy arrives unannounced, she calls him Dewey. Who’s responsible for breaking into houses? How are poodles, ghosts, drug cartels, and Ponzi schemes connected with a serial killer?
No matter how many murders occur, no matter what kinds of mischief the town experiences, some traditions never vary. Come Monday morning, the early-morning group sits at the coffee shop’s round table to solve the world’s problems. Come Thursday, ladies sit in dim lights with their husbands and/or escorts in LouEllen’s Lounge and listen to romantic melodies. Come Sunday, all good Christians sit in their pews at either the Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, or Catholic sanctuaries to hear the Gospels. The killer may be among them, singing the loudest. Praying the hardest. In Magnolia Bluff, you never can tell.
Nestled in the heart of the Hill Country, Magnolia Bluff, Texas, sets the stage for a cozy yet compelling mystery series crafted by a collective of authors. The richness of the story adds a Texan twang to the conventional small-town charm, making readers feel like they’re sippin’ sweet tea on a porch swing.
A sharp-witted librarian, Caroline McCluskey, stumbles upon the start of a series of mysteries when a black and white poodle pup she names Dewey appears in her home. As she diligently deals with Dewey, a wave of burglaries and an elusive serial killer keep her on her toes. This author lassoed together elements (come on, it’s Texas Y’all) as diverse as poodles, ghosts, drug cartels, and Ponzi schemes into a captivating narrative.
The folks of Magnolia Bluff may know each other’s business, but they’re left scratching their heads over a secondary mystery: Who’s the mysterious puppy matchmaker leaving 4 bundles of fur in the homes of unsuspecting women? This adorable conundrum adds a touch of warmth to the tale, leaving readers with a smile as they try to uncover the identity of the four-legged matchmaker.
Amidst the chaos, Magnolia Bluff’s timeless traditions stand strong—friends meeting for morning coffee, small businesses supporting each other, and heartfelt Sundays. These rituals provide a comforting backdrop to the town’s murkier dealings.
For mystery enthusiasts with a hankering for a Texas-friendly read that keeps ’em guessing, Magnolia Bluff is a must. Grab your cowboy boots (or cozy slippers) and dive into this delightful series!

Great review. I have always found Caroline McCluskey and her girlfriends among the most compelling characters in the Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles. The idea of a puzzle-solving librarian sleuth should appeal to many readers. This one is fun – and there are cute dogs!
