Being totally honest here, I read this author purely because we were both born in the same town – seriously. And then I saw the cover and I was drawn into the worlds he creates. But continuing through the entire series? Reading other books by Piggott in a different series well – that’s all about the story!
What I especially enjoyed about this installment is that our main character is beginning to catch glimpses of things, and that elusive memory issue may hold a twist that dedicated readers will appreciate. Mark Piggott hits the ground running with an epic battle, and he handles it with plenty of flair. The characters, weapons, and setting are so vividly described that you feel as though you’re right there in the middle of the action.
While the main character is wonderful in his own right, I have to admit to having a bit of a girl crush on his wife, Wren. This woman is a force to be reckoned with all on her own, and I’m here for it!
The cover may have hooked me, but the story and its characters are what keep me coming back for more. And apparently, I may have to admit something I never saw coming: perhaps I’m a closet steampunk fan. Who knew? Certainly not me.
