Historical/Memoir Fiction
This is a nice book with a pleasant story. I know that sounds like faint praise and it kind of is. The transitions between voices is abrupt and sometimes took me a page to realize the perspective had changed – sometimes the changes were even on the same page without any formatting division – at least on the kindle.
There are a lot of books out there that give the story of generations of Jewish immigrants becoming “Americans” and while this tells a good story it is not one of the best. While this is a work of fiction I felt that some of the history in the book was a little different than experiences I have heard from Jewish and American families. It would make a good support book for someone interested in the process of immigrants.
