Do you like quirky? I do. This book is a gritty detective type novel set during Prohibition in Chicago – mob bosses and all. Oh, did I mention the vampires – yeah, that’s where the twist occurs.
What happens when someone puts Alastair down for a dirt nap, but he just won’t stay down? As he tries to adjust to his new lifestyle, finding creatures to feed from can be a challenge, he is also trying to figure out who murdered him. Throw in a dame that’s a reporter and all the noir boxes are checked.
This is a nicely paced mystery with all the elements to make for a unique and entertaining read. The first couple of chapters are a little odious but don’t let that stop you from continuing because it is a very good story.

DeLane is way too calm and her eyes are the color of blood. After she escapes, Alastair goes on the hunt only to find himself the prey of an ambitious and mysterious mob boss who plots to have him murdered. The problem? Alastair doesn’t stay dead and comes back as something else. Something more dangerous and straight out of a horror novel.
