The Big Inch by Kimberly Fish

A few weeks ago I took part in a book blog tour for this author and her Comfort Series.  That book made me pull this book off my ‘to read’ shelf and move it to the front!  And boy, am I glad I did.  I loved this one so much that I went and ordered the next one in real live paper so they can sit on the ‘KEEP’ shelf together.

This historical fiction kept me reading at every opportunity (I did finish my paying work but laundry is very patient!).  Lane Mercer walked off the pages and into my heart.  Set during one of my favorite historical periods in my adopted state of Texas, I was enthralled with Longview and Lane’s mission. The story allows you to peek into the lives of spies at a time when technology was only a dream in the future.  Lane’s ability to keep all the details and observations in her brain is astounding. With a potential bad guy (sometimes even the weather is against you!) around every turn, Lane is a woman of strength.

Combining history and the best in characters, this book jumps to the top spot in my list of books I will recommend to everyone this year.  Right now it’s a steal on Nook or Kindle at only $.99.

SUMMARY

Lane Mercer is a spy recovering from a disastrous mission in France when she’s assigned to protect the interests of the new federal project sending American oil to the Allies. Thrown into the high-stakes world of Texas oilmen, she’s inventing maneuvers on the fly to outwit would be counter-intelligence and Fascist sympathizers. Complicating her mission is a handsome con-artist who manages to be under her feet at the most inopportune times. Trapped between trusting her gut, or trusting her informers, Lane has to learn to navigate a town that is laced with more intrigue than she’d ever have guessed, and she soon discovers that the life she might have to save. . .is her own.

Kimberly Fish’s well-researched writing drops readers into the colorful world of the American home front known so well to those who lived alongside the Greatest Generation. Buy The Big Inch today to begin reading this exciting first novel in a WWII series set in Texas.
