The Last Sketch by Gosia Nealon

If you have been reading my reviews you know that I love a great character and this new-to-the-scene author has given this book several great characters. The main character, Wanda is being pulled in a variety of directions as the world is being torn down around her.

While taking the reader right into the horror and heart of war, the author is also able to help the reader understand the humanity involved.  This is an emotional story that will leave you with feelings long after the last page.  I really enjoyed how the author wove the story with many bittersweet and intricate layers.

The storylines of history, romance, and survival were very well done.  You can tell the high level of research and knowledge the author used in developing this story.  An impressive first novel.
