Wild west hijinks continue in the eighth installment of the hysterical and historical adventures of an unlikely hero.

H.H. Lomax once again finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when, wrongfully accused of robbing a bank, he’s arrested and jailed in a town vying for a stop on the approaching Texas & Pacific Railroad.
When local officials can’t afford to pay for a trial, a harebrained scheme is concocted to get rid of Lomax without spending a red cent. But Lomax avoids the hairy situation, pulling off an escape with the aid of an unlikely accomplice and exacting a bit of revenge in the process.
His wandering spirit—and neck—intact, Lomax lands among the Mormons in Salt Lake City, where he encounters a long-lost relative in need of assistance and makes the acquaintance of none other than Irish poet and aesthete Oscar Wilde. And from there, it’s all downhill, folks!
Jumping from one bad situation to another in non-stop hilarious action, H.H. Lomax’s adventures will tickle your funny bone with genuine humor while satisfying your craving for western action adventure.

JENNIE READS REVIEW

I was already a fan of this author when I picked up his latest in the H.H. Lomax Western series. The main character, Lomax, has had me laughing before with his antics, and I looked forward to another adventure (or more like a series of mishaps). The story is fast-paced with plenty of right angle changes that kept me engaged.

One of the things I appreciate about Lewis’ writing is his ability to create believable characters. Lomax is a flawed guy with a rough exterior and the tendency to make less than stellar decisions. But despite all this, he is very likeable and easy to root for. In this book, Lomax gets to share scenes with the ever emerging Mandy Mae. She is making her way in a man’s world yet standing her ground and figuring out exactly how to accomplish what she wants. (Basically a man and she has set her sights on Lomax – never mind that he’s in a jail cell.) The other large character is Oscar Wilde. I was cracking up at some of the scenes and items that came tumbling out of Wilde’s mouth as well as comments by his entourage.

One consistent that I enjoy in all of this series is the way that the author incorporates historical details into the narrative. Lewis clearly does his research when it comes to the time period. From the language used by the characters to the descriptions of the areas, everything felt authentic.

This book is definitely for Western fans, but it is also for lovers of Historical Fiction and Humor – or even you if you can just let your imagination play and enjoy a good yarn.
